The moment to exhibit the results of a year’s work has come. The 50 students from the first edition of AMBULANTE’s documentary production training workshops will present their works next week at the Claustro de Sor Juana University. En el año 2012 se celebra el 50° aniversario de la Fundación Ford en América Latina. Con motivo de la efeméride, AMBULANTE y la Fundación Ford unen esfuerzos para que, por medio del cine documental, se genere un debate activo que atraviese la frontera creando alianzas que promuevan la colaboración entre gobiernos, instituciones y organizaciones civiles, para favorecer cambios sociales relevantes. Por eso viajaremos a Tijuana y San Diego del 6 al 9 de septiembre con AMBULANTE BORDER SERIES, un ciclo de proyecciones seguidas de paneles con reconocidos expertos que abordarán tres de los temas más apremiantes que afectan la relación bilateral entre México y sus vecinos centroamericanos y norteamericanos: el tráfico y la política de control de armas, la libertad de expresión y la migración. En palabras de Elena Fortes, directora general de AMBULANTE, "Los invitamos a ser partícipes de este cicloy a disfrutar de estacuraduría única de AMBULANTE. Confiamos en que el intercambio de ideas y puntos de vista suscitados durante este ciclo sentarán un precedente importante para el desarrollo de la agenda política y cultural de la región".

The year 2012 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Ford Foundation’s work in Latin America. Together with the Ford Foundation, AMBULANTE seeks to generate a debate through documentary film, and create solid partnerships that will promote the collaboration between governments and institutions in order to achieve significant social change. That's why we will travel to Tijuana and San Diego from September 6-9 with AMBULANTE BORDER SERIES, a series of screenings followed by panels that will highlight three of the most relevant issues affecting the bilateral relations between Mexico and its Central American and North American neighbors: arms trafficking and gun control policy, freedom of expression and migration. Elena Fortes, Director of AMBULANTE, invites you to take part in this "unique series and look forwardt o your ideas and perspectives during the discussions. We trust that we will be able to set a significant precedent for the development of a new cultural and political agenda in the region."

Después de tanto deporte, es hora para la cultura y el cine en la capital británica. Y la mexicana precisamente será la protagonista este fin de semana. El LondonMexFest, festival mexicano de cine, arte y música co-organizado por AMBULANTE junto con CANANA, el FICM y el British Council en el marco de las Olimpiadas Culturales, arranca hoy en Shoreditch con la película de inaguración Hecho en México, dirigida por Duncan Bridgeman. Además nuestros colegas y amigos de CANANA Cristina Garza y Julián Levin participarán en una charla sobre los retos actuales de la producción y distribución internacional de cine y se inaugurará la primera y única exposición de lucha libre en Londres de la aclamada fotógrafa Lourdes Grobet.

Mañana se estrenarán Cuates de Australia (dir. Everardo González), Lecciones para una guerra (dir. Juan Manuel Sepúlveda) y Silvestre Pantaléon (dir. Roberto Olivares Ruiz y Jonathan D.Amith); y Everardo González, junto con Viviana García Besné, Elena Fortes y Eva Parenteau partiparán en una mesa redonda sobre las posibilidades del cine documental.

After all that sport, it is time for culture and film in the British capital. And Mexico will be the protagonist this weekend. The LondonMexFest, a Mexican festival of film, art and music co-organized by AMBULANTE together with CANANA, the Morelia International Film Festival and the British Council within the frame of the Cultural Olympics, kicks off today with the opening night movie Made in Mexico, directed by Duncan Bridgeman. Besides, our colleagues and friends from CANANA, Cristina Garza and Julián Levin will participate in a talk about the current challenges of international film production and distribution, and the first ever London Lucha Libre exhibition by acclaimed Mexican photographer Lourdes Grobet will be inaugurated.

Tomorrow will be the premier of Drought (dir. Everardo González), Lessons for a War (dir. Juan Manuel Sepúlveda) and Silvestre Pantaleón (dir. Roberto Olivares and Jonathan D. Amith); and Everardo González, together with Viviana García Besné, Elena Fortes and Eva Parenteu will participate in a round table about the possibilities of documentary filmmaking. There will also be a concert by Amandititita and a sensorial photography study, amongst many other things!

En el marco de las celebraciones de su 50 Aniversario, la oficina de la Fundación Ford para México y Centroamérica, en coordinación con el Instituto para las Mujeres en la Migración, ONU mujeres y el Colegio de México extienden su invitación para el panel “Mujeres en Migración”, el cual se llevará a cabo el jueves 30 de agosto. Participan mujeres periodistas, migrantes y expertas en migración y el panel estará moderado por Carmen Aristegui. La cita es el jueves 30 de agosto a las 16.30 hrs. en el Colegio de México ubicado en Camino al Ajusco 20, Pedregal de San Teresa. La entrada es libre.

As part of the celebrations of its 50th Anniversary, the Ford Foundation Office for Mexico and Central America, in coordination with the Institute for Women in Migration, UN Women and the College of Mexico extend their invitation to the panel "Women in migration" which will take place on Thursday August 30 and will have the participation of women journalists, migrants and experts in migration. Carmen Aristegui will moderate the panel. The date is Thursday 30 August at 16.30 hrs at the College of Mexico located on Camino al Ajusco 20, Pedregal de San Teresa. Admission is free.

Este 24 de agosto CANANA lleva a las salas de cine la cinta Juan of the Dead, que narra la historia de Juan, un hombre de 40 años que tiene que adaptarse a la nueva situación que Cuba enfrenta: una invasión zombie. En compañía de su hija Camila, su amigo Lázaro y el hijo de éste, Juan ofrece el servicio de deshacerse de los infectados por un módico precio. 

Juan of the Dead, film distributed by CANANA, will premiere next August 24. In the movie, Juan, a 40 year old man needs to adapt himself to the new situation that Cuba faces: a zombie invasion. Along with his daughter Camila, his friend Lázaro and his son, Juan gets rid of the infected for a low price. 

El pasado viernes 10 de agosto se hizo oficial: AMBULANTE presentó a Coahuila como nueva sede de la Gira 2013 en una conferencia de prensa en el Museo de Artes Gráficas de Saltillo. Y la acogida por parte del estado norteño no pudo haber sido mejor. Puedes descargar aquí el boletín de prensa y consultar algunos de los artículos que se publicaron (El Diario de Coahuila, Vanguardia, Zócalo). Gracias al interés y apoyo de la Secretaria de Cultura del Gobierno de Coahuila el año que viene Ambulante llegará por primera vez al noreste de la República, abriendo nuevos espacios para el diálogo y la reflexión en México. ¡Ya queremos estar allá!

We made it official last week: AMBULANTE presented Coahuila as a new venue in the 2013 tour in a press conference at Saltillo Museum of Graphics Art. And the welcome this northern state gave us couldn’t have been better. Thanks to the interest and support of the Department for Culture in the Coahuila Government next year Ambulante will arrive for the first time to the northeast of the Republic, opening new spaces for dialogue and debate in Mexico. We wish we were already there!

The PUMA. Creative Catalyst Awards are an international documentary development fund with twenty awards in 2012 offering up to 5,000 euros per recipient. Providing resources in the early stage of documentary projects to shoot and edit a film trailer, the fund is open to filmmakers of any nationality. These awards are open to emerging and established filmmakers working anywhere in the world. We welcome one-off, creative documentary ideas of any length and subject, in any style and form, but we are particularly keen on ideas that speak to PUMA vision's core values of Safe, Peace and Creative.
